Singing as Life Practice Open Workshop #1
First of three introductory sessions to discover the magic landscape of singing as life practice!
17 April 2026 at 11:00 – 18 April 2026 at 17:00

There are 3 open weekend workshops this spring-summer 2026. They can be taken as a stand-alone or as a tryptic. Each class builds on the weeks before. However if you can only make one you will not be lost. Priority of place will be given to those who can attend all 3.
You can save £££ by buying all 3 as a pack!
Suitable for beginners and those looking to refresh or continue their training or explore the work in relation to their own creative projects.
This is a space to build an authentic relationship with your own voice. Whether you are a seasoned singer or someone who has long believed you "can’t sing," or have lost your voice along the way, you will be guided and supported as you explore your voice as a living, expressive part of you - not separate from your body, imagination, or story. We work through song, sound, movement, and ensemble practice. The voice emerges not just as an instrument for music but as a carrier of feeling, memory, and meaning.
Process
We begin by exploring how voice and body are intimately connected. The body holds biography - experiences, protections, and longings - and the voice often reveals what has been silenced, buried, or waiting to emerge. In this workshop, we listen for those hidden threads.
You will be supported to move from self-expression into collective listening, to hold space for yourself and others with strength and gentleness. Imagination is central - songs here are not just collections of notes but stories to be told and felt.
The Resonators
You’ll be introduced to a system of vocal resonators - spaces in the body where sound vibrates. Each resonator connects to emotional qualities or "vocal archetypes" such as grief, joy, the King, or the Mother. These are not fixed categories but creative tools that offer access to deeper layers of expression. They help bring body, voice, and emotional truth into alignment.
Technique
We work with technical vocal practices drawn from cranio-sacral and movement-based systems, alongside breath and muscle training. You will learn how these systems can support or inhibit vocal freedom, and how to develop greater ease, range, and vocal clarity. We also explore placement and internal space - how the voice travels, where it gets stuck, and how to unlock more flow.
Form
This is where technique and personal process meet. We weave the “why” of singing - your story, your longing - with the “how”- the physical, musical, and imaginative tools that support expression. We work with polyphonic songs in ensemble, creating a rigorous and held space for you to build your own grounded, embodied vocal practice.

We might like to invite a photographer we know to make images and video footage that would be shared as marketing. They understand the work and are sensitive to the process. Please let us know if you would prefer not to be in the images.
Please come in clothes that are loose-fitting and comfortable for more dynamic movement. The work happens in bare feet, but you may want socks and a jumper for more static moments. Please bring water and a pen and paper to note down the songs. There is no recording during the workshop, but we will make time to collectively record the songs you learn at the end.
Please let us know in advance if there is any condition or injury that we need to know of and which may require adaptations.
